STRATEGIES

There’s no skill or strategy required to play Sic Bo. Anyone can win or lose – it all depends on which way the dice roll. This means there’s no way to increase your odds of winning or to reduce the house edge on any particular bet.

Should I focus on higher paying bets?

An hourglass sits on a betting box on the Sic Bo table.

It may seem tempting to place your bets on outcomes that have high payouts, but these bets have the potential to drain your bankroll quickly. This is because they have a lower probability of occurring. Bets that offer higher payouts odds also have a higher house edge. In some cases, the house edge is as much as 18.98%.

Sticking with bets that have 1 to 1 payout odds may seem less exciting, but they have the potential of extending your play time. Some players believe the smartest bets are the Small and Big bets. Small and Big bets have a nearly 50% chance of being rolled and the house edge is less than 3%.

Can the table get hot or cold?

It might be tempting to believe that a table that has paid out a lot is on a hot streak – or if it hasn’t paid out, that it’s on a cold streak. Unfortunately, this simply isn’t true. Winning and losing streaks are only in our minds. They are not a reality of the game. Every roll of the dice is a random event which is independent of the last roll.

Tip

The digital board at the table shows the outcomes of past rolls, but it won’t help you predict the next one.

Should I double my bets when I’m down?

A man runs on a treadmill, chasing a bag of money hanging just out of reach.

Doubling your bets to try and win back money you’ve lost is called chasing your losses. You may think that the longer you play, the more likely you are to win, but this is not the case. The house edge in Sic Bo ensures that over time, the house is more likely to win than you are. That’s why it’s best to play for fun and consider any wins as a bonus.

Tip

Set a win limit. Determine ahead of time the point at which you want to walk away. This way, if you do win some money, you can avoid losing it back to the house.

Betting according to past outcomes

The digital board beside the table displays the outcomes of previous rolls. While you may think you can see patterns in these outcomes, there aren’t any.

Because each roll of the dice is independent of the last, all outcomes are purely random. No board or person can predict the outcome of a roll.

Are some numbers luckier than others?

Some may believe that certain numbers are luckier than others. While playing your favourite numbers can be fun, keep in mind that Sic Bo is a game of pure chance. No number is more likely to come up than another and there is no way to increase the odds of rolling a certain number or combination of numbers.
